It has been a fairly busy week for me because my uncle's here and he's been dragging me to places. I had to wake up really early these past few days and well, I get really cranky when someone wakes me up in the morning. I feel bad for anyone who has to do the deed for I snap like a dog who just got his chew bone snatched when someone disturbs my sleep. Anyway, as I am saying, my uncle's here and I've been accompanying him to see doctors. He came here for he's worried about his leg. He got it wounded and it hasn't healed for like 3 months now. Ocular inspection yields positive dry, scaly skin and positive discoloration in both lower extremities. They are also positive for a pitting edema. Every one of us suspects it's Diabetes – it runs in the family, my mom has it and one of their siblings had both of his lower ex amputated (well me and my other PT student cousins think it might be DVT, but he's negative for Homan's sign so we had to cross it out) – but when he had his blood works done, it turns out his sugar level is normal, not even close to borderline. But something else was found in his results. His blood creatinine level is increased, indicating a problem within the kidneys, and so he was referred to a nephrologist (henceforth will be nephros.) And that's where all my troubles has begun.
I never thought it would be that hard to look/schedule an appointment with a doctor before. I called three hospitals near our vicinity inquiring the schedule of their nephros and if I can make an appointment. They all said no and that we have to come in personally the day of their clinic hours – hours in advance – if we want to get seen. But that would just be wasting time! What was the use of making scheduled appointments if we still have to go there hours before their clinic starts just to get in line?
And so we looked for other places where we can find nephros. We’ve been to hospitals near our place and called so many clinics only to end up with nothing. Yeah. Crazy. Then a thought suddenly hit me! My reaction was like.. why haven’t I thought of this before!? HAHA THIS CITY HAS A FREAKING KIDNEY INSTITUTE! I was so stupid lol. That freaking hospital ought to have a swarm of nephros! It should be the first hospital that comes to mind! FREAKING CRAZY!
Anyway, my uncle finally got to see a specialist and well, he needs to undergo more diagnostic tests before he can be diagnosed. And guess what, the doctor suspects DVT too! So my cousins and I were in the right track after all, just that….we ruled it out! HAHAHAHAA.
